Blessed & Limping

What happens when God meets us in our most vulnerable, isolated moments? In Genesis 32, we encounter one of the strangest and most profound stories in all of scripture: Jacob, a man whose entire life has been defined by grasping, scheming, and self-reliance, finds himself alone in the dark, wrestling with a mysterious figure until dawn. This is not a gentle bedtime story. It is a raw, physical, spiritually charged confrontation that leaves Jacob permanently marked. The central lesson here cuts deep: sometimes God does not change our circumstances first. He changes us. Jacob thought his greatest problem was the brother he had wronged years before. But God knew that Jacob's greatest obstacle was Jacob himself. Before the reconciliation could happen, the man had to be transformed. We are invited to ask ourselves the same honest question God posed to Jacob in the dark: who have we been? What name have we been living under? And are we willing to hold on through the struggle long enough to receive the blessing that waits on the other side of honest surrender?
