Counting the Cost

Sep 8, 2025    Pastor Marty Toepke-Floyd

Today, we delve into the challenging words of Jesus from Luke 14, where He asks us to 'count the cost' of discipleship. This passage confronts us with the radical nature of following Christ, urging us to prioritize our relationship with Him above all else - even family ties and possessions. While Jesus' words about 'hating' family may seem harsh, they emphasize the supreme loyalty required in discipleship. We're called to carry our own cross, symbolizing our willingness to die to self and fully submit to God's will. This message invites us to examine our lives and commitments, challenging us to consider: Are we truly ready to put Christ first in everything? As we reflect on this, we're reminded that true discipleship isn't about comfort or convenience, but about wholehearted devotion to our Lord.
